The goal of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) is to reduce the discomfort brought on by unpleasant memories. By using bilateral stimulation, including tapping, eye movements, or sounds, EMDR lessens the emotional impact of traumatic experiences by processing them. EMDR was first created to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it has also demonstrated efficacy in treating a variety of other psychological conditions, including phobias, depression, and anxiety. Reprocessing traumatizing memories is aided by clients revisiting upsetting memories while concentrating on outside stimuli during therapy sessions.
